Mystery cargo ship shows its 'rear end' to Queen Mary 2
Seconds before the fireworks were due to start howls of horror were heard at Woodside when a mystery ship appeared and blocked the view across the river. Photographers who had spent ages getting themselves into the right spot to photograph the fireworks could not believe their eyes as the QM2 and Pier Head disappeared behind the starboard side of the ship.
Things got stranger when it slowed and then turned 90 degrees so its stern (back side) was facing the QM2. It then proceeded down river sideways past the QM2 much to the amusement and relief of eveyone at Woodside on the Wirral side of the Mersey looking across to Liverpool.
The departure of the Queen Mary 2 was marked by a fabulous firework display at 10.50pm on Tuesday 20th October 2009. The fireworks were set off from a barge moored in the River Mersey just offshore from the Pier Head in Liverpool.

Please note the video speed has been increased as it QM2 was bearthed very slowly so this video is actually 20+ minutes long in real time!
